Sacramento Concentrator Tunnel
This is actually one of the rare true tunnels in Bisbee; it passes completely through the mountain. It was never intended to mine ore, but rather served as a pipe tunnel. Water was pumped from the 800 and 1800 levels of the nearby Calumet & Cochise shaft through this tunnel to the concentrator for the Sacramento Pit. The use of this tunnel ended October 28, 1931 when the concentrator for the Sacramento Pit was shut down. About halfway through the mountain it struck a small hydrothermal cave that contained fluorite. Pieces of this were heavily collected in the 1990,s
A gated entrance to the Sacramento Concentrator tunnel, note the water line is still in place.
